Madi's tonsillectomy went well

Madi did really great with her tonsil surgery. Here she is getting ready for it. Notice that they had to get a huge gown in terms of circumference to fit her in terms of height! The first one they chose for her based on her age didn't even come to her knees.

She was a little worried at points, but overall she did just fine. Here she is with Tim.

Here she is waiting with me. She talked to the doctors about what to expect and walked back to surgery with them on her own.

She was gone about 30 minutes or so. They took her tonsils and adenoids out, and made pictures of her larynx to figure out why her voice is so gravely. The doctor said the surgery went very well. There was not a lot of bleeding or anything like that. She does have nodules on her vocal chords, which he thinks is probably caused by reflux. He said after the surgery that her voice will be different, because her tonsils and adenoids were really huge and swollen with lots of drainage. So maybe she will sound more like a little girl and less like a blues singer in the future.

Here she is following the surgery. She did not feel so well right after, but she started doing better on the way and once we got home.

GaGa was waiting at home with Henry. Madi was glad to see her. She has ensconced herself on the couch and is watching a selection of fine movies and sipping a variety of beverages.

She even had a great lunch of macaroni and cheese! So far, so good ... we are glad she is doing so well!

I am glad it went well! and I can't believe she already ate Mac n cheese...Go Madi! Makes me feel a little anxious that reflux could have caused some damage. Do they think that will be reversable? Do they recommend anything for Henry's reflux? Let me know if you think we should do something with Maggie since she is off meds, but is still really raspy. I hope you all have a chance to rest now and Madi just keeps feeling better. Good thing ice cream is one of the best things on the planet :)

Yes, we're all glad she is doing so well. Everyone is eating lots of Creamies (except Henry, of course. He has to have popsicles with no dairy).

The doctor said that the damage from the reflux should probably go away. He actually started her on Prevacid a few weeks ago, but wasn't sure about things until he did the laryngoscopy to look at her vocal chords.

Henry is still on Prevacid, twice a day. You may want to have Madi's doctor check out Maggie to see what he thinks - his name is Bennion, and he is in the ENT practice right next to their pediatrician. He said he can do the laryngoscopy in the office, too, but in Madi's case it was easier to do while she was asleep since she was getting the tonsils out anyway. I don't know if they do those on babes or not!

Yay for Madi! What a brave young lady to head back to surgery with the doctors on her own!
