Henry slept well last night without vomiting any more and we all woke up hoping for improvement. It did not come right away, but he overall today he has definitely improved over yesterday.
First, he was very lethargic this morning and would only take small amounts of liquids. We took him to the doctor for another antibiotic injection. This is what he looked like while we were waiting for the doctor. He didn't even want me to hold him.
The doctor said his ears are improving! He got his injection, never his favorite part, and I brought him home. He wasn't much better, although he let me hold him.
He had a little nap and then perked up. He actually ate food and drank liquid! The doctor said as long as he had stopped vomiting, to give him whatever he wanted. He wanted a fruit and grain bar along with some water and juice.
He played a little and seemed to be feeling a lot better. He drank several ounces of formula and took a nice long nap. We were starting to think maybe it was all over.
After his afternoon nap he threw up again. We were so disappointed. We realized that the instructions from the ER were to give his anti-nausea mediation every six hours, but on the medication packet from the pharmacy it said every four. It had been five hours since he last had it when he threw up.
As the evening wore on he did drink a little bit of water, and at bed time he had several ounces of formula. So I guess now we just need to keep the anti-nausea medication going and hope for the best. No one really seems to know why he is so sick. Between his ER doctor and his regular doctors, they seem to think it is a virus or a reaction to the severe ear infection.
Henry seemed to be holding his own, so Tim stayed home with him while Madi and I went to see a friend who was visiting from out of town. Here is Madi all ready to go. I'm sure I'm not the only one who sees Madi's teenage years flash before their eyes.
Madi and I enjoyed visiting with Ana, her husband Jordan, and friends at dinner. Ana is my former graduate student and is doing her post-doctoral fellowship at Washington University in St. Louis. It was great for Madi to get out of the house and see somebody besides a sick Henry. She was pretty much reduced to speechlessness by the mango ice cream too.
It was good to see Ana. We have missed her. Have a safe trip back to St. Louis!

amy...it is so sad to see little Henry curled up on the doctors floor! and, to me, there is not much worse than a little baby on a hospital gerny. I am sorry you guys had to do all that. I can't believe what a run Henry has had. I hope he got some sleep last night and keeps everything down today! Could I make you guys a meal for Tuesday's dinner?
It has been really hard, you are right. We are hoping he is on the mend now. He has had a really good night and is actually still sleeping now.
Sure, dinner would be great!
I love this picture!! I loved to see you guys, I miss you. Madi looks adorable and Henri is a big boy now ;o)
Madi had a great time seeing you Ana. She wants to know when you are coming back!
